Las Vegas Doctor Arrested for Murder of Patient
A Las Vegas doctor was arrested and charged with murder for prescribing deadly levels of prescription medicine to a patient for 5 years.
Richard Sy Teh was arrested by a DEA task force after an investigation into the logs and prescriptions showed that Teh prescribed dangerously high levels of prescription medications to a patient who other doctors described as being in "stable" condition.
Teh, an intern at Sun City Medical Group, prescribed the patient Lisa Blythe with enormous dosages of narcotics including Demerol, Oxycontin, Valium, Paxil, Ambien, Soma, Dilaudid and several other medications. Blythe, a reported former narcotics and cocaine abuser, died in 2007 of several symptoms suggestive of dangerous drug abuse, including an enlarged heart, multiple drug intoxication and acute renal failure.
Despite misgivings of several other doctors and specialists over the years and advice to reduce the amount of medication that Blythe was on since her diagnosis did not merit that level of medication, Teh continued the prescriptions for several years until Blythe ceased visiting him, and her eventual death.
