Fire Causes $100,000 in Damage at Shopping Center
A second fire within four years caused extensive damage to a Las Vegas shopping center Sunday night.
The blaze started in a convenience store that was closed at the time. The fire is said to have been started due to an unattended hot plate in an employee lounge in the convenience store.
Witnesses passing by the store contacted the police department reporting a smell and sight of smoke around the building. Firefighters reported to the site and put out the fire as quickly possible, but a total estimated damage of $100,000 was caused.
At the start of 2007 a previous fire destroyed several stores causing massive property damage. The previous blaze was caused by an improperly used torch on a roof.
While no injuries were caused in these accidents, the potential for a burn injury or injury was extremely high. If a passer-by or employee had suffered burns from the fire, they could have potentially been seriously injured or even killed.
