Carbon Monoxide Leads to Death of Elderly Woman
An elderly man is hospitalized and his wife is dead after a carbon monoxide (CO) leak in their home. The couple was found by their son, who broke into their home after they didn't answer the door. If it is found that the CO leak was due to a defective product, the man or his son may sue for personal injury damages. CO is present in many household appliances such as furnaces, water heaters, room heaters, fireplaces and others. When these appliances malfunction, they can leak CO into the home or space.
Carbon monoxide is a colorless, tasteless and odorless gas that is deadly to human in high doses. It is a byproduct of cars, and is the principal gas that is responsible for deaths that occur when a car runs for an extended period of time in an enclosed space. It is estimated that more than 170 Americans die each year from CO poisoning, and many more are hospitalized after exposure to the toxic gas.
