3 Hurt in Fire Caused by Combination of Medical Oxygen and Cigarette
A woman in the Las Vegas Manor Senior Apartments apparently forgot that she was breathing medical oxygen when she decided to light a cigarette before bed. Pure oxygen is incredibly flammable, and when she lit the cigarette she started a fire on her bed by accident.
The woman, who is said to be in her 60s, was able to take the burning bedsheets outside, but the bed had caught fire and spread to the rest of her apartment. She was alone in the unit. The fire, however, spread to other units in the building. One apartment was destroyed and another apartment was damaged from the heat and smoke.
10 people were displaced and three were injured. The woman was one of the injured, and had to be treated at University Medical Center for burns on her face. The others suffered from smoke inhalation.
