Drunk Driver Kills His Own Brother
One man was not only sentenced to thirty years behind bars but has to live knowing that he took his own brother's life.
The 31-year-old man reached a plea agreement with the prosecution last week regarding the drunk driving accident that killed his brother and friend. The judge learned about how the man was driving along a national highway at speeds as high as 116 MPH when he lost control of his vehicle. As a result, he killed two people and seriously injured himself. He agreed to plead guilty to intoxication manslaughter, which is a second-degree felony in the state.
While this would normally not have landed him thirty years in jail, the fact that he already had a previous conviction for robbery led to an increased sentence. Rather than to go trial, the man agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge even though it meant he would receive such a long sentence.
