Elderly Husband and Wife Killed in Auto Accident
Around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, a 85 year old husband and his 86 year old wife were driving on Needles Highway when they struck another vehicle from the side. They were both declared dead at the scene when EMT arrived.
The other car, a GMC Yukon, had the right of way. The driver of the other car was taken to the hospital, but is not in critical condition.
It has not yet been determined what caused the car accident. Their deaths, however, highlight a general opinion that elderly drivers should have to retake their driving test every few years. Crashes of this sort have also been caused by product defects in vehicles, such as gas pedals which cause unintended acceleration.
