A mining accident in Alaska resulted in the death of a 20-year-old Nevada man Monday morning.
The victim was Jacob Ryan Branham, a native of Spring Creek, NV. His clothing became entangled and caught in a piece of an industrial drill, pulling him into the machinery. Alaska State Trooper Megan Peters reports that he likely died from a broken neck. He was pronounced dead during transportation to a Fairbanks hospital.
Branham was employed as a drilling helper at the Alaskan mine, operated by AK Drilling, Inc and owned by International Tower Hill Mines. The mining project was for exploration into a large gold prospect.
All mines and mine workers must comply with Mine Safety and Health Administration guidelines. It is not known whether there were any safety violations in the incident.
