Walmart Still Fighting $7,000 Trampling Fine

Last November, "Black Friday," the shopping sale the day after Thanksgiving, turned deadly when a Walmart employee was trampled to death by a crowd of eager shoppers. Now, Walmart has spent over $2.5 million dollars in legal fees and resitution donations to fight a paltry $7,000 fine.
Walmart says it is fighting the fine because the trampling was an unforseeable accident and retailers cannot be held responsible for situations like that. Their argument is weakened by the fact that they already settled a suit with Nassau County, NY, in order to keep from being criminally charged. They have instituted new crowd managment techniques, given money to victims of the stampede, and donated $1.5 million to Nassau County community organizations.
OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, has also had to spend millions in legal fees trying to uphold the fine. If upheld, crowd management could become a type of premises liability.
