Fireworks celebrations can be very dangerous, especially when alcohol is involved. Celebrations with homemade fireworks, however, are a lesser known but equally dangerous occurance.
On Sunday, one such Las Vegas celebration became deadly when a homemade firework, believed to have been encased in a metal pipe, exploded and the shrapnel hit two people. One, a teenager, was struck in the leg and is expected to recover fully. The other, 22 year old Kacey Barlow, was pierced in the heart and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Although normally a quiet area, every year residents of Pooh Corner celebrate with neighborhood fireworks. It is believed that the fatal fireworks were either homemade or illegally brought in from Mexico. Sometimes fireworks accidents occur because of defective products. No charges have been filed yet, although a few kids were seen being handcuffed.
