A 19 year old motorcycle driver was killed on Saturday after an accident with an SUV. His name has not yet been released; police are waiting until his family has been notified of the motorcycle accident and his death.
According to witnesses, the SUV turned into the motorcycle mid Saturday afternoon, and then continued driving without stopping. It is illegal in Nevada to leave the scene of an accident, if it is safe to stay, without providing contact information, insurance information, and medical assistance if necessary.
The driver, 34 year old Maria Mauricio-Martinez, was apprehended only a few blocks away. She was unhurt, as was her 3 year old son who was with her in the SUV.
The victim's family may be able to sue for wrongful death in addition to the criminal hit and run charges that Mauricio-Martinez may face.
Many victims of auto accidents sustain serious injuries, especially when they are driving a motorcycle.
