Gas Leak Explosion at NV Energy Substation

Early Sunday morning, a transformer in the downtown NV Energy substation exploded, shaking nearby buildings and causing two injuries. The people injured were outside of the building and were struck by brick and cement debris.
It is unknown what caused the explosion, although there was also a gas leak detected. Investigators are unsure whether the gas leak caused the explosion, or if the explosion caused the gas leak. They believe that the explosion was accidental.
Nearby buildings were also damaged in the explosion, and over 20 people had to be evacuated from the area. The blast was felt in apartment buildings that were blocks away; one resident compared it to a meth lab explosion.
Firefighters had to wait until the power at the substation was shut down before they could enter to quell the fire.
The injured victims are stable; they may be able to file a premises liability suit against NV Energy.
