Strip Will Be Closed to Vehicle Traffic on New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve is one of Las Vegas's most celebrated nights. Around 300,000 people are predicted to come to the city to celebrate the new year. Seven resorts will collaborate to put on a $500,000 fireworks show. The resorts are MGM Grand, Caesar's Palace, Stratosphere, the Venetian, Planet Hollywood Resort, Aria and Treasure Island.
In order to accommodate the revelers and ensure their safety, the local police will be blocking off the strip from vehicle traffic. Given the large amount of individuals who will be intoxicated, both drivers and pedestrians, it is in the best interest of all. Hopefully this move will decrease the already-large number of DUI auto accidents and pedestrian accidents that happen on the Strip.
Traffic will be allowed to pass through again early on Saturday morning when most of the tourists have gone back to their hotels and celebrations have stopped.
