Officer Struck by Patrol Car While Fighting Bicyclist
A Las Vegas police officer was injured on Tuesday when he was hit by another patrol car. The officer, who has not been named, was giving a ticket to a bicyclist who was riding the wrong way on the street when they got into a physical fight. The police have not released the reason for the altercation. Another officer nearby responded to a call for backup, but when he arrived, the first officer and the bicycle rider were fighting on the ground. The patrol officer accidentally hit the other patrol car, then ran over the leg of the officer on the ground. This type of pedestrian accident is uncommon.
Both the policeman and the bicyclist required medical attention. The bicycle rider suffered only minor injuries but the officer sustained a knee injury. The rider was still given a ticket for biking in the wrong direction, and other charges may be pending.
