Teen Dies in Cliff Diving Accident

At Lake Mead National Recreation Area, a group of friends, at least some of them teenagers, were cliff diving when it ended in disaster. One of the cliff divers was killed when a friend dove in, from about 30 feet, right after him and accidentally landed on him.

As soon as the victim was hit, he began to sink. Three others jumped into the water, but could not keep him from drowning because he sank too quickly. The water was about 50 feet deep.

Although cliff jumping is not illegal, it is very dangerous. Between the impact of the water, possible unseen rocks, and other people, it is not uncommon for it to result in injuries or even death. It was not released whether the person who landed on the 18 year old victim was injured.
