Over-chlorinated Pool at MGM Grand Prompts Evacuation; 26 Hospitalized

Around 1,500 people were at the MGM Grand lazy river on Friday when someone noticed it began to smell strongly of chlorine. Suspecting over-chlorination, they alerted the staff, who immediately began evacuating the guests. All 1,500 guests were evacuated, and 26 were hospitalized because of breathing difficulties associated with the chlorine. They were treated with pure oxygen.
No one was seriously injured in the accident, and of the 26 who were treated at hospitals, none fell unconscious and none are expected to suffer long term negative effects.
Staff at the hotel realized that a chlorine pump had malfunctioned and was stuck in the on position. They immediately corrected the problem, and the lazy river was opened again on Saturday. Fortunately for the resort, the pump for the lazy river is not connected to the pumps for the other pools, so the incident remained isolated. The MGM Grand issued free passes to everyone at the pool for the next day as well.
