Bernie Mac's Widow Claims Wrongful Death, Doctor at Fault

Rhonda McCullough, the widow of comedian Bernie Mac, has filed a wrongful death personal injury suit against his dermatologist. The comedian and actor died at age 50 almost a year ago after complications from pneumonia.
McCullough's suit claims that his dermatologist, Rene M. Earles, acted negligently by keeping him at the clinic, despite showing signs of cardiopulmonary instability, abnormal vital signs, and respiratory failure. These signs of pneumonia, if caught and treated early, could have saved Mac's life.
Earles, however, says that he noticed the weakness, repiratory difficulties, and a rash, then consulted with Mac's primary care physician, and sent him to the hospital in a chauffeured car. His statement did not address the nine hours that McCullough claims he was in the dermatologist office.
Mac was also suffering from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease which caused lesions on his face, neck, and head. Earles had been treating his lesions for over 20 years.
McCullough is seeking $50,000 in damages.
