Across the country, hundreds of people have fallen ill from salmonella that was carried in tainted eggs. Although cooking the eggs thoroughly will kill the bacteria, many uncooked eggs are used in various food productions, such as salad dressing and meringue.
Nevada is one of the states that has reported a high increase in salmonella outbreaks. Although it is one of the most common types of food poisoning, the tainted eggs have caused an increase of as much as 400%.
Other states that have reported the salmonella outbreak are: California, Arizona, Illinois, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Texas. The company which recalled the eggs, Wright County Eggs, packages the eggs under many different brand names. Some of the brand names are Ralph's, Shoreland, Hillandale, Sunshine, Albertson, and Lucern. It also sells large quantities to restaurants, which have been responsible for many of the sicknesses.
None of the victims of the food poisoning have died, although salmonella can be life threatening.
